Green Day begins recording new Album

Green Day PatriotsRockers Green Day have gotten to work on what will be the follow up to 2009′s 21st Century Breakdown. Over Valentine’s day, frontman Billy Joe Armstrong broke the news on his Twitter account following an extended hiatus.

“Happy Valentine’s Day! Officially started recording the new record today. It’s F*** TIME!!!!” he tweeted.

This will be the band’s ninth studio album in Green Day’s twenty one year existence.

Valentine’s Day holds something of a bittersweet place in the hearts of the band and it’s fans. The band had recorded an unreleased 2003 album, Cigarettes and Valentines, which is something of a legend in itself. Instead of Valentines, the band recorded the acclaimed album, American Idiot.

The band has made several mentions of their new project, both on stage and on Twitter. The album currently has no release date or any other juicy details that a true Green Day fan yearns for, but with the band’s 21st Century Breakdown tour and the March, 2011 release of Awesome as F***, a live album and DVD, fans should have more than their fill of Green Day material to ride out the wait.
